Monday 8th January is set to be a record breaking day for job applications across the UK as people seeking a new start for 2018 begin their job hunts after the holidays.
For many, the festive period is one of reflection and nobody can deny using the phrase ‘new year, new me’ at least once in their lives! With most people enjoying an extended period of time off over Christmas, it’s no wonder many start to reconsider whether their current job is really what they want to do.
Dubbed ‘Massive Monday’ by Mark Rhodes, an expert in recruitment at Reed.co.uk, research has shown that up to 1 in 5 people will look for a new job this month. Rhodes told Metro.co.uk: “Around a million job applications will be made on Reed.co.uk during the course of next week alone.”
It’s not only candidates that are getting in on the action; Dale Williams of Yolk Recruitment states: “Businesses and candidates both view the New Year as an opportunity for a fresh start and we typically see a surge in motivation… as individuals try to achieve the New Year’s resolutions they have set out.” He continues: “Many businesses operate from January to January with employers often setting out their business objectives and hiring budgets in the New Year, which often leads to a recruitment drive.”
