Last week I wrote a blog post about ‘Massive’ Monday 8th January, which was tipped to be the biggest job hunting day of the year, with 1 in 5 people beginning their New Year job searches after the end of the holiday period.

A 2014 poll by Jobsite.co.uk of 1500 adults stated that 62% felt that the New Year is the best time for a new start, and 51% state that better job satisfaction is the main driver behind their decision.

It appears, however, that more and more people are catching on to the idea of ‘Massive Monday’ and endeavouring to beat the rush by applying earlier, some even getting started before the festivities have come to an end.

Nigel Green, founder and CEO of deVere group, states: “There’s always a surge of people applying for jobs … in the New Year.  They’ve had time off to focus on what they want and need from their working lives and made resolutions to further their careers.  But this year, it’s been a super-surge, with a 125 per cent increase in applicants [to deVere group] in the week after the festive period, compared with 2017.”

As jobseekers become more clued up on the best and fastest ways to secure work, it comes as no surprise that, as Green states, “those who are serious about [their career], or those who are now looking to take their …  career to the next level, are getting in there early, ahead of Massive Monday.”
